Using The Computer To Write Your Inventory

I have one sponsee that has come out of this workshop. She is a 73 year old woman with 20 years of sobriety. She has only done inventories out of the 12×12. She is the type of person who when she talks, I don’t understand what she is saying. I do remember that I had to learn how to talk about my drinking and my experience in such a way so that others could understand it and make use of it – it did not just flow out of me in a way that was understandable – but also – until I had recovered through using the Big Book – I was insane and how I spoke about my experience reflected my disorganized mind.

I asked her at some point if she had a sponsor and she said “You.”

I wondered if this meant she is surrendered – never having asked me to be her sponsor and telling me that I am her sponsor seems to mean that she really is not very surrendered.

This week she is leaving on a summer vacation trip. She told me before the workshop started that she recorded her 4th step into her computer so that she can take it with her.

I told her – if you must use the computer to work on your inventory I would recommend that you NOT work on it till you get home.

See- she did not ask my opinion. She told me what she is doing. But I did need to say that this is unacceptable – but the way she stated it did not give me any leeway to say – why can’t you bring your binder – if you can bring a computer?

From my perspective there is NEVER a good reason to use the computer or any electronic device to write your inventory. Your ARM is connected to your HEART. The computer is a servitor created by other humans and it is not connected to you spiritually. In fact, on a spiritual level, I consider it a black mirror, which is not of the high spiritual level..

In addition, I drank LIVE – in-person – not online.

She will do as she will – but I am not condoning using the computer – and I want to make that clear so that when she works with others she hears my voice echoing in her head when it comes to this issue.

I doubt she will make it through the steps with me – because it seems to me that she is simply not surrendered at all. But at the very least, I will have conveyed that we, of my sponsorship lineage, do not use an electronic medium to transmit our inventory.
