Disclaimer: Sober Curious is NOT a recovery program. If you are concerned that your drinking is making you a danger to yourself or anybody else, then please find your local AA support group and / or seek professional help.
Look!!! They even say that this is not AA!!!! Why then are some of our AA members inviting them to our AA dances?
Money. Revenue. Promotion. That is the reason why AA members invite outsiders to come to non-AA events. You may be ruining a later opportunity if a person comes to us too early.
This is a violation of the 7th Tradition.
Do you trust God? God will lead the people to AA who are supposed to be here. Look in Chapter 7 Working With Others – we don’t want to be the Evangelist or Reformer. And there is nothing “wrong” with Sober Curious – I don’t know who it is for and I don’t care. Maybe it’s for normies and they just “re-branded” themselves with a new name for 2024 – I don’t know.
I know that I am not sober curious. I am sober – or not – if you look in their group – there is also a group of people who are “sober-sometimes” – Yes those may be future members of AA… FUTURE members but now. They are not done. Let them get done.
We just need to keep trudging, mending our fences and doing our work with people who want to be with us until they are ready, so that we are actually here when they are ready.
Sober Curious is a Modern Temperance Movement – nothing wrong with that. This is a “free” country supposedly – so they can do what they want.
